START OF AN ERA?
Rory McIlroy might have lost his match against Hunter Mahan in the final of the World Golf Championship – Accenture Match Play Championship at the Ritz Carlton Golf Club in the deserts of Arizona, but he is well and truly in place to succeed Luke Donald as the number one golfer in the world and the way things are going at the moment, if McIlroy just manages to go beyond Donald by one round in the next event they play together, he will succeed him as the world number one.
Furthermore, players, critics and fans alike are all in favor of the 22 year old British golfer becoming the number one golfer in the world, believing that he will be the one to lead golf out of the many controversies that the game has managed to embroil itself into. Furthermore, they believe that Rory McIlroy will be even more popular as the world number one than Tiger Woods, who was at one time, the crowd favorite but his off field controversies have seen him suffer a huge fall from grace in recent years.
Moreover, his recent form has also not been up to the standards that he had set for himself. McIlroy, who has been dubbed as the Boy Wonder by golfing fans received a rousing ovation by the fans present at the final of the Match Play Championship and Hunter Mahan, his opponent also believes that the British player he played against almost three years back is now close to becoming the finished product, ready to rule the world for the next decade at least.
But Rory McIlroy is not ready to claim the top spot right now, according to the man himself as he wants to gain more experience before he begins his reign as the king of the golfing world.
